China pledges to deepen economic reform

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhuanet) -- China should deepen economic reform in 2005 and try to further eliminate unhealthy and unstable factors in the country's economic operation through the deepening of reform, according to an executive meeting of the State Council Wednesday.

Premier Wen Jiabao presided over the meeting, which discussed and approved two documents, "Key Points of Work of the State Council in 2005" and "Comments on the Promotion of Economic Restructuring in 2005".

China's economic situation is good in general, but there exists quite a number of problems, the participants agreed. The participants heard a report on the work of forest and grassland rehabilitation and ways to improve relevant government policies.

A number of other issues were also discussed, including the market situation of iron and steel and the overheated investment in the infrastructure sector. Enditem
