
China Radio International(CRI) is the
only state-run radio that transmits programs worldwide.
Every day it broadcasts a total of 211 hours of programs
around the globe in 38 foreign languages, Mandarin and four
Chinese dialects(Cantonese, Chaozhou, Fujian and Hakka).
Every year it receives more than 600,000 letters from
listeners around the world.
CRI has bureaus in
27 countries, as well as in all Chinese provinces,
autonomous regions, municipalities and the special
administrative regions of Hong Kong and
Macao.
Since December 26, 1998, CRI has had its
own Internet on-line service atwww.cri.com.cn.
At present, the following networks are available: Chinese
News Network, Overseas Chinese Network, TV Network and other
networks in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese,
Portuguese, Russian and Korean.
Since October
6, 1999, CRI has transmitted international news to local TV
stations across China via satellite. The main programs are:
World Today, World Scan, Global Economic Report and World
News Magazine. Over 100 television stations have subscribed
to these programs.
CRI also runs newspapers
such as The World News in Chinese, The Messenger in English
and Information and Echo in German. In addition, CRI
operates China International Broadcasting Publishing House
and China International Broadcasting Audio & Video
Publishing House.
