China News Services is the second largest press
agency in the country and is also headquartered in Beijing.
Founded on September 10, 1952, it began formal delivery of
news on October 1, 1952, specifically serving overseas
Chinese communities and compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and
Taiwan.
China News Services has branches and
correspondents in Hong Kong, Macao and 23 Chinese
municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions, and has
also opened offices in the United States, Japan, France,
Australia and other countries. In 1982, UNESCO graded 172
news services from around the world, and China News Service
was listed as a Grade B agency.
As a
comprehensive news service, it is equipped with advanced
communication equipment and covers a wide range of
fields. It supplies news, photos, features and audio and
video products to overseas Chinese news media. It has sent
reporters to Taiwan and received Taiwanese reporters in
China, becoming the most important news exchange
organization between the two sides of the Taiwan
Straits.
