Ambassador Hua Holds "China&India Hand-in-Hand Cultural Evening"

H.E.Mr. Hua Junduo, Chinese Ambassador & His Wife together with Mr. Dhanendra Kumar, Secretary of Indian Culture Ministry and H.E. R. Venkataraman, Former President of India enjoy the Cultural Evening "China & India-Hand in Hand" to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Panchsheel June 18, 2004

 

To mark the 50th anniversary of the initiation of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence by China, India and Myanmar, Chinese Ambassador to India Mr. Hua Junduo held "China & India Hand-in-Hand Cultural Evening" in New Delhi on June 18. China Central Television "Hand-in-Hand" troupe brought consummate programs and friendly sentiments to the Indian people attending the event. This is the maiden big show in Delhi for the troupe and it is also the first time for the Chinese and Indian artists to perform on the same stage. With the distinctive theme and cordial atmosphere of the show, China-India friendship on and off the stage was gathered to extol the fruits of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence jointly initiated by China, India and Myanmar and hope for the continuous development of China-India traditional friendship.

 

The event was attended by nearly 2000 people including friendly personages from all walks of life of India, members of Indian non-governmental friendship organizations, diplomats in India, Chinese Indians and overseas Chinese in India. Indian Culture Secretary Dhanendra Kumar and his wife, former President of India  Venkataraman and Rajya Sabha Secretary General Yoginder Narain were also invited to grace the show.

 

Siri Fort, the biggest auditorium in Delhi, had a full house. Chinese and Indian artists participating in the show dedicated highest-level performances to the audience. Mr. Teng Geer's "Paradise", Ms. Peng Liyuan's "Jomolangma" drew a shower of applause for their fine singing. The audience experienced the charm of splendid Chinese art through the pretty Xinjiang Dance, varied Changes of Masks of Sichuan Opera and the acrobatic performance "Merry Chef". The audience also became aware of the civilization and holiness of the Ganga River by Indian artists' "Ganga Song and Dance". The show reached a climax by Chinese performers' Bharad dance "Alaripu". Chinese and Indian performers sang on the same stage of the origin of China-India relations to their hearts' contents and jointly expressed the friendship between the two countries for the past 50 years.

 

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Dwarkanath Kontis' wife Ms. Guo Qinglan and his sister Ms. Manorama were invited to attend this significant event from Dalian and Mumbai respectively. Especially when the master of the ceremony told by screen Dr. Kontis' stories of his help to China and his marriage with a Chinese girl and showed some parts of Ms. Guo's present life, the audience was deeply touched. Ms. Guo and Dr. Kontis' relatives were most moved, and they, together with the master of the ceremony, delivered cordial speeches to cherish the memory of Dr. Kontis for his dedication to China and China-India friendship.

 

The show concluded in the English song "Hand-in-Hand". The "Hand-in-Hand" troupe impressed the Indian people deeply by their successful show. The performers and audience were immersed in the atmosphere of China-India friendship. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which guided China-India relations for the past 50 years, will serve as the future guidance for the development of the bilateral relations between China and India. The two peoples will be friendly for generations, and hand in hand forever.
