On Aug. 7, 1981, to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Indian great poet, writer and social activist Rabindranath Tagore, the China Foreign Literature Society and China South Asia Society held an academic symposium on Tagore. Rass, first secretary of the Indian Embassy to China, Feng Zhi, directore of Foreign Literature Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Ji Xianlin, chairman of the China South Asia Society and vice-president of Beijing University, attended the opening ceremony on the symposium.
