On July 5, 2008, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang, at invitation, attended the donation ceremony of "the night of solidarity between Latin America and Caribbean and China" on Wenchuan's earthquake disaster relief held by the diplomatic corps of Latin American and Caribbean countries in China. Guillermo Vélez, dean of the diplomatic corps of Latin American and Caribbean countries and Colombian ambassador to China expressed admiration on the rapid and effective relief efforts of the Chinese government after the massive earthquake hitting Wenchuan and willingness of providing assistance. Li extended gratitude to the diplomatic corps and businesses of Latin America and Caribbean for their support and indicated the confidence that with the joint efforts of the entire Chinese people and the support of the international community the disaster-hit people would surely achieve the final success of rescue and relief.
