Meeting of Political Director-Generals from the Foreign Ministries of the Six Countries Held in Germany

On February 4, 2009, the political director-generals from the foreign ministries of the six countries including China, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany, met in Wiesbaden, Germany to discuss Iran's nuclear issue. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Liu said that the six countries should insist on addressing the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations. All parties concerned should take the current opportunity to strengthen diplomatic efforts and display flexibility with innovative thinking in a bid to seek a comprehensive, long-term and appropriate settlement of the issue.

During the meeting, Liu also held bilateral meetings respectively with U.S. Under Secretary of State William Burns, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Director General for Political Affairs of the German Foreign Office Volker Stanzel, exchanging opinions with them on the bilateral relations as well as the Iranian nuclear issue.
