Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Tazhin

(2009/03/30)

On March 30, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin. Both sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral ties and international and regional issues of common concern and reached broad consensus.

Yang said the bilateral relations have deepened in recent years with close high-level contacts, increasing political mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation in various sectors. "China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to fulfill the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and agreements signed by both sides in a bid to further strengthen the Sino-Kazakh strategic partnership," he said. Yang called on the two sides to deepen bilateral cooperation in the sectors including economy and trade, energy, non-resources and ports, maintain close coordination under the multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and jointly combat the "three forces" including "East Turkistan" in a bid to push bilateral ties to a new level.

Tazhin said Kazakhstan gives high priority to ties with China, firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's principled position on the issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. Kazakhstan will maintain close cooperation with China in cracking down on the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, he said. Kazakhstan is ready to continue deepening pragmatic cooperation with China to push forward bilateral relations, he added.
